Day 2
Today we got up bright and early and went for a nice little walk. We left the apartment around 630 and took off in search of some grub. Bohemia Bagel was our destination and it's about 2 miles away from the apartment. Above are some pictures of our stroll along the Vltave River. Along the way we realized that Prague is overwhelmingly filled with sights. You can't look one way without seeing something that has to be seen, even in the middle of a sea of wires and cables.
So, after an hour and a half, we finally arrived at Bohemia bagel. We ate fried eggs, American pancakes, American bacon, sausage, and a small bagel. Everything was great, although the Czech sausage was a little too sausagey and Alli couldn't stomach eating it. Oh, forgot, we crossed the Charles bridge to get to Bohemia bagel and it was quite stunning. No one was there yet, we think it starts getting busy around ten, so I think we will only try to be on the bridge early, maybe catch a sunrise or two. Here's a pic of Jesus on the Charles Bridge.
After eating we went to the old town square and dillied around for awhile. In the middle of the square there were two huge screens for Eurocup 2008. Every time the Czechs play everyone gathers there to watch the match and to drink some beer. Didn't take any pics of the square or the Charles bridge, and I apologize for that, but they will be on their way one day shortly. Turned out we were exhausted by the walk/flight/wedding only days ago, so we had to find a way home. We couldn't walk any further so we bought a tram pass and took the street car back to our apartment. The street car picks up a short walk from the apartment and takes us straight to downtown old town. Here are some more pics from our first day excursion.
When we got back to the apartment we crashed and slept for 7.5 hours.
When we woke up we realized we missed the soccer game we were going to go watch at Old Town Square. When we went there today we saw them setting up---tons of beer!!! Barry says it was a good thing we didn't go because Czech Republic lost, and there is still another game we can see.
This evening we ventured to our grocery store which we thought was called Billa but really it is Food Lion. Hehe! I had a lot of fun there, and Barry about lost it. We didn't get a cart because you had to pay for one, then we decided we should just pay for one and we could not go back out the doors! So we did find a basket and I started filling it up. Barry was no help, all that was on his mind was beer. It was the one thing he wanted but he didn't get it because I filled the basket...with necessary food for survival!!! Anyways, when we got to the checkout we were worried we spent too much and wouldn't have enough money, but we were good. The man behind us spoke good english and helped us out by informing us we had to buy bags if we wanted them...and the man behind him went and weighed our produce for us because we didn't know what we were doing. I thought it was a fun trip, Barry was a bit flustered. Barry however, is great with the map and gets us to and from places with ease!!! Yay for that! I have been craving a bowl of ice cream with hot fudge and bananas and whip cream and a cherry...but I don't know if we will find that here. Tomorrow we plan to go to the zoo, we have a three day tram pass so need to take advantage of it aka get our moneys worth dad!!! Love you all!!! Na Videnou!
